EMU – A TOTALLY USABLE BIRD

Emu Meat is heart healthy as it very low in fat with a beef like flavor. Their dark red meat is highly nutritious.  It is providing a healthy source of protein for people on special diets, including those suffering from Alpha-Gal Syndrome.

Emu Fat is rendered and refined into a wonderful oil with many uses.  It is primarily used to moisturize skin on humans and pets alike. It contains omega fatty acids which naturally help to relieve inflammation.  Emu oil has the same lipid (fat) panel as human skin.  It is one of the few natural oils that penetrates the human skin barrier. It penetrates very deep into the lower layers of the skin, muscles, ligaments and joints to nourish the cells so they can repair and rebuild themselves.

Emu Body Hides with their beautiful quill pattern, can be tanned into a soft and supple leather.  It is used to make wallets, belts and purses but is soft enough to be used for clothing like vests, slacks and skirts.  The leg leather is much thicker and is used on areas that receive more wear.

Emu Body Feathers are soft and downy with a very high oil content.  That is why they are popular as feather dusters. That high oil content keeps them from creating static electricity.  This makes them perfect for dusting electronic equipment.

Emu Eggs are edible and great for baking. The dark green eggshells are used to create beautiful artwork. The eggshells are painted, carved and decorated and sought after by artists.

Emus are Naturally Healthy birds that tolerate many climates and various environments.

Emus are Ecologically Friendly.  Emus are soft footed so they don’t erode the pastures as many farm animals do.  They require about a half pound of food per day.  This is about the same food as a Labrador retriever receives on a daily basis.

Emu Manure is not fermented and does not smell like the manure of other farm animals due to the emu’s short and rapid digestive system.  Their manure makes an excellent natural fertilizer that can be used in gardens and flower beds.

Emus have a Long Lifespan and produce quality eggs for approximately 20 years or more.  These birds thrive without added growth hormones and seldom require antibiotics unless an illness requires treatment.   They are ideal for small acreage farming as they prefer long but narrow enclosures
