BRODHEAD, WI - The American Emu Association (AEA) has announced that events for its annual 2010 National Emu Week (N.E.W.) celebration will be held across the U.S. from May 1st - May 9th. N.E.W. is a nine-day promotional event starting on the first Saturday of May and running through the second Sunday in May. During this time many emu farms will be offering tours, sponsoring contests or guest speaking. Ms. Reavis will be working with State Coordinators across the country as they prepare for the nine-day event.
For the 12th year since the beginning of the nine day promotional event, now known as National Emu Week (N.E.W.), Joylene Reavis has been appointed its Chairperson. Ms. Reavis was instrumental in the initial creation and promotion of the American Emu Association sponsored event. In addition to her activities as N.E.W. Coordinator, Ms. Reavis is president of the Wisconsin Emu Association, serves on the American Emu Association Board of Directors as board secretary, region 3 director and ag-legislative chair and promotes agri-tourism on her and her husband, Michael's, Sugar Maple Emu Farm located just SW of Brodhead, Wisconsin.
Emus are considered an alternative agricultural livestock. They are raised on farms and ranches throughout the U.S. and around the world. Native to Australia, emus are members of the ratite family, and are raised in the United States for their nutritious red meat. Other products from emus include leather, feathers, the fat, which is turned into an omega rich oil used in health and beauty products, eggs used for eating and beautiful green eggshells that are used to make stunning artwork.
